Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is HID?

HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. It refers to lighting technology that HID Lights relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas contained in a sealed bulb. The technology of HID automotive lamps is similar to that of common vapor-filled street lamps. HID lighting doesn't have a filament but instead creates light by igniting an arc between two electrodes. HID lights get their name from the intense white light produced by the electrical discharge. HID lamps are also called xenon lamps, referring to a gas inside the lamps. HID general lighting has been used for years in sports arenas and stadiums around the country.

  2. What bulb size does my car use?

The bulb size is different from one car to another, some car use H-series bulbs, some use the 9000-series bulbs and some use the 800-seriese bulbs. Before you make your purchase verify that your car doesn't have an Aftermarket headlights, or fog lights. We have noticed that a lot of the aftermarket headlight units use bulb sizes that don't match the factory unit. If you do have an aftermarket lights you need to remove the bulb from the housing and verify the bulb size, usually the bulb size is stamped on the base of the bulb.

If your car has OEM lights you can use the online bulb guide: Click Here...

  3. What is the difference between Hi/Lo and Bi-Xenon kits?

The best way to differentiate between the Hi/Lo and the Bi-Xenon kits is by explaining what each kit include:
    Hi/Lo or Xenon/Halogen Kits includes:

    • 2 light bulbs (each bulb has an HID and a halogen bulb on the same base.) The low beam bulb would be HID, the high beam will remain halogen.
    • 2 HID ballasts (regular or Slim)
    • Owners Manual
    • Mounting screws and hardware

    Bi-Xenon or Bi-HID kits includes:

    • 2 light bulbs (each bulb has 2 HID bulbs on the same base) The low beam and the high beam will be converted to HID.
    • 4 HID ballasts (regular or Slim)
    • Owners manual
    • Mounting screws and hardware

To sum it up the different between Hi/Lo and Bi-xenon is that Bi-xenon will convert both low beam and high beam to HID while the Hi/Lo kits will enable you to install HID for low beam and maintain your high beam halogen bulb.

Note: you can only use the Hi/Lo or Bi-xenon if your car is using one bulb for the low beam and the high beam. If you have separate bulbs for the low beam and high beam and you wish to convert both to HID you will need to purchase two separate single beam HID kits.

  4. What is the difference between slim and regular ballasts?

The only different between Regular and Slim ballast is the size, both regular and slim ballast have the same specification and operation ability.
    Regular and Slim Ballasts Specifications:

    Vin

    9V~16V~36V

    Vnorm

    13.2V

    Iin

    8A

    Pout

    35W

    Tcase

    -40C~105C

The reason slim ballast were introduced is to allow the installation of HID kits on cars that have tight spaces behind the headlights, another use for the Slim Ballasts is on Motorcycle. That's being said there is no reason to buy a slim ballast kit unless you don't have room in you engine bay to install a regular ballasts.

  5. Can I use single beam kit on my car even though it is equipped with Hi/Lo bulb?

No, if your car is equipped with one bulb for the low and high beam, you should use the same setup for replacement. You can either use Xenon/Halogen (Hi/Lo) kits or Bi-xenon (Bi-HID) kits.

  6. Which color temperature should I buy?

The color temperature is a personnel preference. The most popular colors are in the range of 6000K-10000K, this color range provides the best light output and is the closest to the OEM look. If you prefer a color outside that range you must note that it might be illegal in your state.

We have included images of each color on the product page, if you select the color temperature from the drop down menu you would see the image of that color on the left.

  7. Does my car need capacitors or warning canceller?

There is no exact answer for that question, the purpose of these HID capacitors is to eliminate the bulb out warning or flickering that happens after you install an HID kit. This will apply to any HID kit that is offered on the market today. These cars are known to flicker after installing HID kits: newer Chrysler, GM, Ford and Volkswagen especially the ones equipped with Daylight Running Lamps (DRL). These cars are known to display a bulb out warning in the dash: BMW (starting early 90s), Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen and other high end cars.
